This prologue is narrated by Machivelli, He mimis the author and this character explains that he is presenting the tragedy of Jew who becomes rich to act upon on the teachings of Machivelli,s. In this play a Jewish merchant Barabas who is waiting for news about the return of his ships from the east. He discovers that they have safely put in Malta, Then three Jews arrive and say to him that they must go to senate house to meet the governer. Then Barabas comes to know that every other jew on the island must give half of his estate to keep the government pay tribute to the Turks.
On hearing this, Barabas does not agree to give helf of his property, he protests against government. Then governer of Ferneze seize all of Barabas’s wealth and turn his house into a convent. Barabas decides to take revenge but first attempt to gain his treasures that is hidden in his mansion. His daughter, Abigail pose to convert to christianity so that she enters the convent she steals out her father’s gold at night.
Ferneeze meet with Del Bosco, who is spanish vice Aduird wants to sell Turkish slaves in the market when Barabas is viewing the slaves, He meets with Ferneeze’s Lodowick. Lodowick hears about beauty of Abigail, from his friend Mathias then Barabas uses Lodowick to his purpose to take revenge. He forces Lodowick in to thinking that Abigail will marry him. At that time Barabas buys a slave Ithamore, who hates chiristinaity and uses him in his false deeds.
Then Mathias sees Barabas is talking with Lodowick about Abigail. On asking Mathias, Barabas lies to him. Barabas asks him daughter to get engaged with lodowick. Then he asks Ithamore to make a forged letter to Mathias to make a duel. Then Bellamira and her pimp Pilia Borza decide to steal some Barbas gold for their purpose. Ithamore falls in love with Bellawira and starts to blackmail Barabas. Then Barabas decides to kill three of them when his daughter turn against him then he kills his daughter by mixing poision into pudding of rice.
Bellawira and Pilia Borze shows Barabas criwes to ferneeze. Then Ithamore, Bellanwires and Pilia die. Barabas takes his own death and run away to calymath. Then Barabas sends message to ferneeze he will free Malta from Turkish rule in exchange for a big amount of money. Then ferneeze agress and Barabas invites Calymath to a feast at his house. Ferneeze prevents Barabas to kill Calymath. Ferneeze and Calymath see Barabas dies in a cauldron that Barabas prepared for calymath.
